Scripture memorization is not very popular today but that doesn’t mean it is not important.
We should try to make it a habit in our lives to intentionally take the time to review and memorize various Bible passages and verses. Here are some reasons that memorizing the Bible is important.
Memorizing Bible verses makes meditation possible at times when we can’t be reading the Bible, and meditation is one of the most important ways to have a greater understanding of God’s Word.
Memorizing Scripture strengthens our faith because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ, and you must hear the word to memorize it.
Memorizing Scripture shapes the way we view the world by transforming our minds to fall in line with God’s viewpoint. (Rom 12:2)
As we memorize scripture it makes God’s word more readily accessible for overcoming the temptation to sin. (Psa 119:11)
Memorizing Scripture guards our minds by making it easier to detect error.
Memorizing Scripture enables us to resist the devil.
Memorizing Scripture provides the words of promise, hope, and life for ministering to ourselves or others in times of need.
Memorizing Scripture is an avenue of fellowship with Jesus because He talks to us through His Word.
